How to Use Facebook Messenger for Your Business
We all know Facebook is a great tool to connect, but did you know that over 900 million people use messenger every month? They aren’t just using messenger to chat with their friends. They’re also using messenger to connect with businesses. In fact, over one billion Facebook messenger messages are sent between people and businesses each month!
It has become a staple in everyone’s social media routine to check their messenger, why not use it for your business? Stil not convinced, Here are more reasons why you should be using Facebook messenger for your business:
- Connect with customers in a private, personalized space, all while keeping a record of the conversation
- People are more likely to connect if already on the app versus moving to email
- Create deep and meaningful relationships with those who are interested in your business
Here are 3 great ways you can start using Facebook messenger for your business:
1. Create Saved Replies
Facebook allows you to create saved replies ahead of time that can be used again and again. This is great for teams who are looking to create a specific customer service procedure…or if you find yourself sending the same message over and over again! Take a little time to create 5-10 replies with frequently answered questions. Some awesome examples may be:
- “Your message has been received and we will get back to you within 24 hours.”
- “Thank you for your message. Here is a great resource that you may find helpful.”
- “We appreciate the feedback! Your message has been noted and sent to our ___ department.”
To create a saved reply, navigate to your messenger window, then click on Manage Replies, then select Create new reply, then click on the dialog bubble at the bottom right of your screen. You can also easily personalize the message with pre-set fields to include the user’s name or the admin’s name.
Messenger also lets you create auto-responder “greetings” with their Response Assistant. These are customized welcome notes that appear in every new message thread before a message is even sent. Set a Messenger greeting in your page’s messaging settings (as shown below).
2. Use Bots
Bots. Once only predicted as the thing of the future, are now available to help us manage our businesses online. My favorite is Sequel, a super easy drag and drop platform that does all the work to interact with your customers. Create auto-responders that are sent to your customers by developing pre-set responses (trust me, it’s not as hard as it sounds).

3. Let People Contact Your Business – Easily!
Messenger is a great way to interact with people because of how effortless it is! Facebook has two great features that allow users to contact you straight from Facebook’s desktop website or mobile app.
First, Messenger lets you create a custom username for your profile that others can use to find you. Usernames help people find businesses on Messenger quickly, and because each username is unique it helps find your business, even if you have a common name. Your username is now shown below your page name, for easy reference.
Next, help users easily find your messenger link by copying it from the message dropdown box. This is a great way to send users your link, for example on your website or within emails.
You can also try a custom messenger code, similar to a SnapChat code. Users can scan your unique code to create a private message thread with your business. Consider using your code for offline purposes as well, for example on a business card. To find your Facebook page code, head to your message inbox, and look for the icon for your messenger code at the bottom near the toggle for your away message.
4. Easy-to-Use CRM
You may have noticed the ability to add notes to your messenger chats, which can be used as a CRM (customer relationship manager). Notes allow you to keep tabs on users and past conversations you’ve had, which is perfect for building leads and managing customer service-related issues. Only admins can see notes, so don’t worry about users seeing them!
